Medication Tech
Job Summary
The Resident Medication Technician is responsible for providing a safe, professional care for residents. The medication attendant assists the residents with the administration of medications, personal care, nutrition intake, ambulation, and housekeeping. The Resident Medication Technician communicates professionally with residents, families, and peers. As a part of the ALF community team, you help to create a positive, caring environment for residents, families, peers and vendors. Resident Medication Technicians are accountable to the Resident Care Coordinator and/or the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Education: High school education or its equivalent and/or certification in the following areas: Nurses Assistant (CNA), Medication Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician and licensure as a nurse.
Training and Experience: Prior experience in caring for people is desirable but not necessary for the individual willing to learn and be a part of a cooperative team. CPR and first aid training required.
Performance Capabilities: Must have the ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English proficiently. Must be able to communicate effectively, be organized and conscientious, and have the strength and endurance required for standing, walking, bending, lifting, and pushing.
Work Performance Expectations:
– Assist with administration of prescribed medications to residents and maintains related medical records.
– Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
– Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application, or assists with administers medication, using specified procedures within certification guidelines.
– Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
– Reports all incidents and adverse events per facility policy and procedure.
– Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
– Gives direct resident care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding residents, and assisting in examinations and treatments.
– Provides support to resident in keeping room tidy and laundry service. Basic housekeeping services (I.e. pulls trash, light housekeeping) on weekends or when housekeeping not present.
– May receive supply of ordered medications and request refills of medications or assemble drugs for assistance with administration to resident.
– May record and restock medication inventories.
Communication
– Document accurately, completely and in a timely manner
– Report significant information or changes in a resident’s condition to the immediate supervisor.
– Interact with co-workers in a professional manner.
Activities
– Promote resident engagement in facility activities.
– Escort residents to activities
– Assist with implementation of planned social activities as needed.
Guest Relations
– Present to work clean and groomed in uniform, with hair neat, nails trimmed and free from offensive odors. Gloves are expected when handling food.
– Respond to resident and family needs by providing immediate assistance when possible. If not possible, assisting within a reasonable time frame.
– Function as a member of the resident care team, assisting and supporting co-workers as needed.
Safety
– Use proper body mechanics when bending and/or lifting.
– Observe established guidelines regarding infection control and safe practices.
– Know the facilities disaster and fire safety standards, including the location and proper use of the fire alarm system.
– Follow the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Performance Requirements
– Perform all duties according to policy and in a professional manner.
– Show up for work on time with minimal absences.
– Attend scheduled meetings and in-services.
– Adhere to dress code requirements.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
Dietary Aid
Job Summary
The dietary aid is responsible for assisting the cook in the kitchen and dining area with the preparation and distribution of the meals for the residents. The dietary aid assists in the preparation and presentation of an attractive and appetizing meal. The dietary aid communicates professionally with residents, families, and peers. General cleaning duties are included in this job description as prescribed by the Food Service Director/Cook on shift.
Qualifications
Education: High School education or equivalent.
Training and Experience: Must be knowledgeable of health regulations regarding food. Serv Safe Food Handlers training course required.
Performance Capabilities: Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English. Communicate effectively. Be organized and conscientious in all aspects of dietary environment.
Requirements: Must present to work clean and groomed with nails trimmed, hair neatly in hairnet. Aprons are to be worn. Gloves are expected in all food service area.
Work Performance Expectations
– Prep and distribute/serve beverages.
– Serve residents plates.
– Distribute meals to rooms.
– Clear tables/pick up trays.
– Wipe down tables.
– Clean coffee/beverage bar.
– Replenish condiments and clean containers.
– Assist cook as needed with washing dishes/cleaning kitchen.
– Roll silverware.
– Complete facility in-services as required.
